The National Association of Securities Dealers (NASDAQ) is an American stock exchange which is one of the most active exchanges by volume and market capitalization of shares traded. At the end of 2023, the NASDAQ had over 4,000 listings.
The NASDAQ is famous for being the first to list many new internet, biotech, and other emerging growth companies. In contrast, the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) is know for listing stocks of more traditional companies. At the end of 2023, the NYSE had well over 6,000 listings.
