A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is an accounting professional who has met specific education, exam, and other state licensing requirements to obtain the professional designation.
To become a licensed CPA, the individual generally must obtain the following:
- Complete a Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) with Additional Education Requirements (30 semester hours). Total combined 150 semester hours
- Pass the Uniform CPA Examination (4 parts with a 75% score or better)
- Work Experience Requirement (varies by state). Florida, for example, requires 1 year of work experience verified by another licensed CPA
