The B-1 Visa (Temporary Business Visitor) is a non-immigrant visa issued to non-U.S. persons. It allows foreign nationals to travel to the U.S. for short-term business purposes. However, the B-1 Visa does not authorize persons to work in the U.S. permanently.

The B-1 visa is a multiple-entry visa, which means the person can use it to enter the U.S. more than once, so long as they don’t violate the time restrictions. Travelers can generally stay in the U.S. for up to 180 days.

However, individuals are warned to not spend too many days in the United States as they could become tax resident under the Substantial Presence Test.

When foreign nationals apply for their B-1 Visa, they often simultaneously apply for the B-2 Visa (Tourism & Medical Care). The combined visa is a B1/B2.
